Hey everyone! ![]()
For a while, we had been wondering… Why doesn’t Nagpur have an OpenSearch User Group?
There are so many amazing OpenSearch communities around the world, and we felt it was time for Nagpur to have a space where developers, students, DevOps engineers, cloud enthusiasts, and open-source builders could come together and learn.
Then came the big question…
If we hosted the first meetup, would anyone actually show up?
Well… you did! ![]()
On 5 September, we hosted the very first OpenSearch Project Meetup in Nagpur, and it was amazing to see the community come together at Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skills University.
For our first meetup, we didn’t really know exactly what the audience would look like. So we put together sessions covering different parts of the OpenSearch ecosystem — from the fundamentals of search and analytics to AI agents, observability, and practical data ingestion.
Aishwary Gathe kicked things off with “An Introduction to OpenSearch – How You Can Best Use This!”, giving everyone a solid understanding of OpenSearch’s architecture, capabilities, scalability, search, analytics, and observability.
Pratik Mahalle then took us from search to context with “Building Smarter AI Agents with OpenSearch.” He showed how keyword, vector, and hybrid search can help AI agents find relevant information — and why understanding context and relationships is what makes those agents truly useful in real-world SRE scenarios.
Jitendra Gupta wrapped up the technical sessions with “Getting Started with OpenSearch: From Data Ingestion to Search & Analytics.” From indexes and documents to queries, ingestion, and OpenSearch Dashboards, the session gave everyone a practical starting point for building with OpenSearch.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a meetup without
food, a quiz, networking, and plenty of conversations!
One of the best parts was seeing people stay back after the sessions — asking questions, discussing ideas, meeting new people, and talking about what they could build with OpenSearch.
A huge thank you to our speakers - Aishwary, Pratik, and Jitendra — for sharing their knowledge and making the sessions so valuable.
And a big thank you to Cloud Native Nagpur for collaborating with us and to everyone who helped make this first meetup happen.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who showed up. ![]()
Your enthusiasm made one thing very clear:
Nagpur is ready for more open-source and cloud-native communities.
We’re already looking forward to the next one — with more hands-on demos, deeper technical sessions, workshops, and opportunities to build together. ![]()
If you’re from Nagpur and you’re interested in OpenSearch, search, observability, AI, cloud, DevOps, or open source, come join us at the next meetup.
Special thanks to @kris for supporting ![]()
This is just the beginning. See you at the next OpenSearch meetup! ![]()
