OpenSearch Delhi User Group meetup, 08 August 2026

Delhi finally had their first OpenSearch User Group meetup ! :waving_hand:

We ran our first meet-up on 8 August at Orangewood, and honestly, going in we had no idea what to expect. First meetups are always uncertain. You put a date out, you hope the right people find it, and you find out on the day.
They found it. Developers, engineers, DevOps folks and a good number of people who had never touched OpenSearch but were curious enough to spend a Saturday afternoon on it.
Khushi, Divyanshu and Aman opened with a quick welcome, and then got out of the way.

  1. Satyam Dubey went first with “Finding Every Cipher Before Q-Day”, on using eBPF to build a cryptographic bill of materials at runtime. The point that stuck with the room: the crypto your systems are actually running is rarely the crypto you think they’re running, and you can only see the difference from inside the kernel.

  2. Arjun Gulbadhar followed with a talk on “OpenSearch embeddings beyond search”. Most of us reach for embeddings when we want retrieval and then stop there. Arjun made the case that the same vector space is useful for a lot more once you stop treating it as a lookup index.

  3. Akshay Kumar and Sahil Arora closed with a hands-on session on “building your first log analytics dashboard in OpenSearch”. Good way to end, since people walked out with something they could go and try that evening.

There was pizza :pizza:, there was a quiz, and there was a long stretch of people just talking to each other afterwards, which is usually the real reason these things are worth doing.

Thank you to our speakers for putting in the prep, to Orangewood for the space, to Welzin and NGKore Foundation for backing this early, and to Co-organizers Divyanshu Mishra, Khushi Chhillar and Akshay Kumar for the organising work that nobody sees but everybody benefits from.

The clearest thing we took away from the day is that people want more demos and deeper technical sessions. Noted. That’s what the next one will look like.
If you’re in Delhi NCR and you work with OpenSearch, search, or observability in any form, come to the next one.
