Facing an issue with Open search dashboards v1.0.0 after migrating from Open Distro Kibana. The maps visualizations stopped working with the following message:
The default web map service is currently not available in your region
The settings at visualization:tileMap:WMSdefaults under Advanced Settings seems fine.
Is there a workaround?

Are you, by chance, in India or China?
Open Distro used a map tile service provided by Elastic. They decided to remove this service for most (all?) users.
Consequently, OpenSearch uses the Amazon provided map tile service which was repurposed from the AWS service. That service doesn’t provide map tiles in certain regions due to local laws.
Good news in open source OpenSearch 1.2.0 (next version), there is new default service that restores maps for blocked regions
