How to get Alerting permissions to create monitors on an internal Atlas OpenSearch cluster?

Versions (relevant - OpenSearch/Dashboard/Server OS/Browser): OpenSearch Dashboards

Describe the issue: I’m trying to create an Alert Monitor on our internal Atlas OpenSearch cluster to send pick short notifications to a Slack webhook. I can view dashboards (Pick Unverified Shorts Dashboard) and access the Alerting section, but when I try to Create Monitor and go to the “Data source” section, the Index dropdown is completely empty — no indices appear. I believe Im missing the correct permissions/role to create monitors.

@cecflore welcome to the forum!

Can you confirm if you are able to confiegure everything using admin account and only seeing this issue using non-admin.

If so, can you provide the permissions given to the non-admin user please

Hi Anthony, it seems I am using a non-admin account. Below it shows the roles I have;

Rolenormal-user

Backend rolearn:aws:iam::667243170581:role/OpenSearchUserRole-normal-prod-us-east-1

@cecflore is this an AWS managed services? Are you able to attempt to create the monitor using admin and confirm it works as expected?

Regarding the missing permissions, assuming you have access to the logs, you should see missing permissions there when you attempt to create a monitor. Listed as either a cluster or indices permission.
