Versions (relevant - OpenSearch/Dashboard/Server OS/Browser):
Opensearch-Dashboards 2.18
Opensearch 2.18
Describe the issue:
My users are doing web searches on how to change the index-pattern or saved search used by all panels on a saved dashboards. These users are almost always getting some variation of the following from search engines AI driven results.
Unfortunately, these found instructions don’t seem to be correct, but I cannot find any documentation to counter them. This is negatively affecting user perception and adoption of the Opensearch platform within my organization.
Here are the instructions presented by Google Search:
To set a single index pattern or search query that applies to all panels on an OpenSearch Dashboards dashboard, navigate to the dashboard settings and select the desired index pattern from the “Index pattern” dropdown menu; this will automatically apply the chosen pattern to all visualizations within that dashboard.
Key steps:
- Access dashboard settings:
Open the dashboard you want to modify and click on the gear icon (settings) in the top right corner.
- Select index pattern:
In the dashboard settings panel, locate the “Index pattern” field and choose the index pattern you want to use for all panels.
So, the question is:
Is there a way to change the index pattern or saved search that is used by ALL panels on a Dashboard without having to edit every visualization panel individually?
Is there specific “official” documentation that addresses the issue of editing and managing Dashboards, other than the “Creating dashboards” page?
Thanks,
Jaimie
