Dashboard edit capabilities broken?

Versions:

  • OpenSearch 3.6.0
  • OpenSearch-Dashboards 3.6.0
  • Ubuntu 24.04.4
  • Chrome Version 148.0.7778.168 (Official Build)

Describe the issue:

I believe that since the last update of OpenSearch/OpenSearch-Dashboards, editing of dashboards is flawed/broken, as follows:

Say you have an existing dashboard, with multiple visualizations, and you want to add a new visualization at the top of the dashboard. Typically, you’d proceed as follows:

  1. Click on “Edit”
  2. Click on “Add”
  3. Click on the desired visualization.
  4. Drag the vosualization ll the way up to place the visualization where you want it.

The problem is that as you drag the new visualization to the top, existing visualizations get reorder in rather awkward ways… in a way that the process is unfeasible.

Thoughts?

Configuration:

Standard configuration.

Relevant Logs or Screenshots:

Nothing really special other than what you can problably figure from above.

@fercho What was the original OS version?

Ubuntu 24.04 for the server, Mac/Chrome for the client.

@fgont Sorry, I meant OpenSearch version

OpenSearch 3.6.0 (opensearchpackage) and OpenSearch Dashboards 3.6.0 (opensearch-dashboards package), running on 24.04.4 LTS (Noble Numbat).

Thanks,

Fer

I was referring to your comment. You’ve stated “last update”, I would like to know what the previous version was, where you didn’t experience the reported behaviour.

Regarding 3.6.0, I’ve tried your steps, and I couldn’t reproduce your scenario. Could you share some screenshots? What do you mean by “reorder in rather awkward ways”?
What would be the expected behaviour in your opinion?

Also, what type of visualisations did you test? Does it happen with a specific type, or did you just test with random?

Regarding OpenSearch Dashboards, do you use workspaces or have explore mode enabled?

@fgont One more question. Which web browser did you use?
