Agent Skills Hackathon

OpenSearch Community, a reminder about our Agent Skills Hackathon!

This is a really cool chance for builders to create agentic IDE skills for search, observability, & migration on the open source OpenSearch Project.

A few reasons this is worth your time: a $5,000 total prize pool across three places, the chance for your skill to be contributed to the official OpenSearch Agent Skills GitHub repository, and a possible invite to present live at OpenSearchCon North America (September 22–24, 2026, San Jose).

Submissions close August 17, 2026. Teams can be 1-2 people (US residents)

If you’ve been sitting on an idea for how agentic AI should work with OpenSearch, this is your moment.

Thanks for putting this together. One logistics question that I couldn’t find answered on the event page, the official rules, or the repo:

The submission template collects the idea, and DEVELOPER_GUIDE.md points to a PR into skills/ for the code. Where should the 5-minute video go — linked in the hackathon issue, in the PR description, or somewhere else?

Also, is the Slack workspace still the right place for hackathon questions, or should they go here on the forum? The #hackathon-agent-skills channel is referenced but I couldn’t find a working invite.

Thank you very much!

hello @simpleciki - yes, please go ahead and start with opening an issue in the GitHub - opensearch-project/opensearch-agent-skills: A collection of Agent Skills for building search applications and analyzing observability data with OpenSearch. · GitHub repo. The judges and others involved will be most active in the #hackathon-agent-skills channel. If you are not yet part of the OpenSearch Slack, this page has an invite: https://opensearch.org/slack/

Hi Kris,

Thank you so much for the information.
I have successfully submitted the entry repository.
However, the Slack invitation link seems to be expired, and it keeps showing that the invitation is no longer available.
Would you mind looking into that for me? Thank you!

Best,
Ciki
