Query to get storage tier and policy state name

Describe the issue:

We have recently started using ISM to transition our indices to warm and cold storage.

I am trying to set up a query to show which storage tier and policy state are applied to indices. I cannot seem to find any documentation on how this can be achieved. Has anyone had any success with this before?

You can use explain index api to get the current state of index.
