Empty Observability/Metrics menupoint

OpenSearch 2.9, Dashboards 2.9

We are collecting JVM metrics and traces from our apps with OpenTelemetry’s java agent. The metrics and traces arrive to OpenSearch just fine, but under Observability/Metrics on Dashboards I see no data:

Currently we do not have a traceId and spanId field in our logs. Could this be the source of the above issue? If I understand the docs correctly, this menupoint is for correlating logs with metrics, based on traceId. Is my assumption correct?

Good question. I think maybe Metrics are shown in the metrics tab when receiving metrics via prometheus as data source. Other then that I think it will not show you any metrics on the metrics tab. Maybe im wrong…
