There is no active SMTP support yet. However, if you have a SMTP server that supports API calls, you can setup a webhook to replicate an API call to send an email. ---

We have a [PR](https://github.com/opendistro-for-elasticsearch/alerting/pull/244) in progress for supporting email destination. Please follow the updates on the PR. Closing the issue, however feel free to open it if there are further questions.
