# Are legacy index templates (\`\_template\` endpoint) deprecated?

I ask because there is no mention of them in the docs but they continue to work just fine. I’m wondering if that will still be the case in v3?

Also wondering the same. I found this other question [Differences between legacy \_template and \_index\_template](https://forum.opensearch.org/t/differences-between-legacy-template-and-index-template/17831) discussing the differences between the legacy endpoint but no responses. Hoping that both will continue to function or that functionality could be merged?

@jong @sohonomo According to this comment \_templates is a legacy feature.  
Even when there is no ETA for \_templates removal, I wouldn’t build any production solutions based on that.
